D-2: Then I Remembered...

Being the administrator of IAM for 2AM means that I get to read the translated news almost first hand since suzelle will send the translations to me, either after I gave her the link to the article or she looked for it herself (usually she looks for the article). The Korean media has this knack for writing about the same thing but phrased differently and using different photos. So we do go through the selection process. Can't possibly translate everything and doesn't make sense either if it's the same thing.

So this past week, we got to know that a fellow IAM passed away. Jo Kwon tweeted consolatory bible verses, Ong also tweeted about how even though he's not religious, he was touched by Kwon's tweets. Chang Min didn't mention name but he talked about a book and how he just read the book again a few days before it happened and the book was still on his desk.

Today, we found out the identity of the fan. She was a big fan of 2AM and in September 2007 she drew a cartoon describing her own struggle with cancer titled “People Who Fought With Cancer” with the pen name “Oh Bang Ddok Girl” in a Daum cafe. The cheerful images in her cartoon drawing and her happiness was a big consolation to other cancer patients.

She went for a 2AM fan signing event and she gave each of the members her book. Chang Min actually tweeted about her book. And she also posted a web toon about her experience at the fan sign etc.

You can read the article here:

Chang Min, his "very special relationship" with Jo Soo Jin the "Oh Bang Ddok Girl"

I cried. The kind of strength she showed, the kind of impact she had probably made in doing what she did and the kindness 2AM members showed towards her. Her experience, 2AM's response reminded me why I fell in love with 2AM beyond their great voices, it was their humble personality that is also very attractive.

Having seen and met them twice last year, I'm always amazed at how amazed they are with the popularity they have garnered. Is this a sign that they don't take their popularity for granted? Yes. And it's really rare because you have to remember these boys are young, popularity and fame gets to people. And yet they have this humility in them, it's great to see. Even Jo Kwon who's the most popular among the 4 of them, talked about how he would think how to make use of this surge of popularity. This shows an awareness that they would not always be the most popular.

So, anyway, I'm glad that I'm going to their concert in Seoul to experience them on home ground and to experience JUST 2AM! It's gonna be FANTASTIC!!
